妈妈 (māma) ; “Mother” in Chinese

            Mothers. At first thought, we think of them with their typical roles. They stay at home, keeping it clean for their family, takes care of her husband and children, and a really good cook. Am I not wrong? Although, there is more behind all that. They don’t just clean; they don’t just cook good meals. They all have a secret ingredient for everything, specially for their family. And they show this in so many different ways.

            Mothers who have lost their children, teen moms, step mothers, single mothers, and even OFWs, or nannies. They may have different situations and struggles to face, yet they all have the same responsibility and they do it in their own unique ways. Some are strict, while some are the playful best friend kind, and some can be both. It all depends on how they discipline their children.

Mom, Mommy, Ma, Mama, Mamá, Māma (妈妈), how can you show your unconditional love to us?

Ever thought how much a mother can go for the people they love? The sacrifices they make? The patience they have? Being a mother is not an easy thing to do. Handling kids is tough, and it isn’t as easy as you think. It needs a lot of patience, understanding, and love to be able to handle children. And this is why I salute mothers who take care of their children with such patience because they have it incredibly amazing in controlling how they discipline their kids in the proper way. But being a mother doesn’t just mean “taking care and disciplining their young ones”. It also means keeping a good relationship between the family, specially to their children. Being too strict, not letting them experience things in life, and not having enough conversation between the two would most likely result to an unhealthy relationship.

            Let’s go back to the secret ingredient I have mentioned earlier. Like I said, they all have this, and show it in their own different and unique way. You most likely know the answer by now. It’s no other than Love. I am really amazed how they love unconditionally to their husband and children. Because for me, for now, it is definitely something impossible to do. Particularly to the mothers who rarely even raise their voices, just understands their child, and simply tell them to do the right thing next time, when they did something wrong.

            It’s good having a Mother’s Day to celebrate each second week of May. But they shouldn’t be treated with so many love for just one day. It should be shown every day. A simple help for the chores and a little goodnight kiss every night would be enough to be the little things that would show your love and appreciation for them every single day. It would probably even take their fatigue away from the very busy day they had. And never forget, always showing them respect is the ultimate way to show them your unconditional love for your mother.
